I don't remember exactly where I heard this, but I've always had the understanding that most great ideas: inventions, groundbreaking features, art concepts, have come to their authors when they were doing dull tasks like eating or chores. Nowadays, while we still do those things, we always have something playing in the background that takes our remaining attention and gives it to someone else.
While driving, we listen to music or podcasts.
While eating, we watch YouTube, Reels, or TikToks.
While doing the dishes or cooking, we throw a random Netflix show on the TV.
And a lot more.
By remaining in this constant cycle of consumption with no breaks in between, we never give ourselves the opportunity to come up with something for ourselves, and in doing that we're losing the one thing that separates humans from the rest of nature - the ability to create. The answer is to seek mundanity over stimulation and to embrace boredom, because without it you might never stumble upon your million-dollar idea.
